Wedding Dress Up Day

On Wednesday Sockburn School had a dress up day for all children to celebrate Miss Walter getting married in the holidays.

Mr Gibson and Miss Cruz thought all the children looked smashing with their wedding best clothes.

Week 1

Well this week in Kowhai it has been very busy.

The children were fantastic with not being able to use the cave after the break in. We are also extremely lucky to be back in the cave on Monday.

Mr Gibson took a few photos on Monday and turned them into a short video.

Kowhai Airshow

This week in Kowhai we have been doing Measurement. One group made lots of different paper planes and then at the end of the week we had an airshow to see which team's plane could fly the furthest. Dylan was the lucky winner with a distance of 11m 18cm!

Measurement

This week we have started learning about Measurement. 

One group used nonstandard measures to measure different classroom objects. We then used a graph to help us record which was longer and shorter.

This week we have been lucky enough to have two days in a row of special visitors to our school! On Monday we had author and illustrator Bruce Potter come and show us some of his amazing work. Then today, we had the Library Roadshow come and share some wonderful stories with us. Some of us were even in one of the stories!

Wind Turbines

The Grasshoppers were learning about Wind Power.

Using Explain Everything they had to draw and label what a wind turbine looks like.

Museum Trip

On Wednesday we went to the Christchurch Museum. We saw lots of interesting things and learnt about the early settlers and what they ate when they first came to Aotearoa. We love going on school trips!

iPads and our Literacy Learning

Today the Grasshoppers had to use Explain Everything to answer a range of questions. We used our fingers to write what we wanted to say.

We were lucky enough to be able to work where we wanted.
